Oregon Myrtlewood grows uncultivated only along small stretches of the Pacific Coast. This character filled piece comes from an old timer who collects Myrtlewood in the Bandon, Oregon area. Use this truly gorgeous box as a unique urn for your beloved pet's cremains or as a one-of-a-kind keepsake box for small items like a petite collar or ID tags.
This box is a great combination of gnarly and smooth area. The front slopes and is full of burly character. The back sides are sanded smooth and are an awesome display of the amazing work of hungry fungi called spaulting. Spaulting occurs while the wood is exposed to the elements and the fungi leave these unique pen-and-ink patterns surrounding the feathery texture of the grain.
Please note: While wood is drying in nature, cracks develop in some areas. These natural characteristics are taken into account while carving and creating each piece. No cracks will compromise the integrity of the urn; it is completely sound with no cracks all the way through the side walls nor lid. The urn you receive is dry and stable & any cracks will not get any larger.

Finish and Cleaning Instructions:
Because your urn or keepsake box is all-natural, it is finished with Clapham's Salad Bowl Finish. This is an edible beeswax/carnauba/mineral oil finish and is suitable for all things wooden. The finish protects the wood and gives it a soft lustrous shine. We recommend cleaning your piece with an all natural wood finish like walnut oil or lemon oil. Any furniture polish can be used though.
This piece ships within 2 business days. Expedited shipping is available during check out.
Meet Your Artist
Earnie and Heather have been bringing new life to old wood for over 20 years. Residing in the Olalla Valley, Oregon, this talented husband and wife team collect driftwood from coastal waters, beautiful streams, their friends' backyards, or sustainably harvested wood. No living trees are ever cut for the intention of creating their fine boxes. Each box is crafted to maintain the natural integrity of the wood's shape, color, grain and texture.
Their search for wood often brings them to beautiful locations. And like all of the artist we work with here at Peternity, they love their to bring along their pup Mrytle Jo whenever they can. Here they are to the right collecting driftwood on the Coquille River.
